When a person like us uses a touchscreen smartphone or tablet, he or she taps on icons or slides a finger across the display in order to make things happen. Happily, the three major touchscreen platforms from Apple, Google, and Microsoft, each include two built-in accessibility features for people with visual impairments: a screen magnifier and a screen reader.

There are several smartphones used by blind people.

The iPhone has accessibility options and is used by most blind people.

The iPhone is the most popular smartphone with people who are blind or visually impaired, and for good reason: Apple was the first to develop an excellent built-in screen reader, called VoieOver.



The SmartVision2 is the only smartphone designed specifically for people with visual impairments. From their website; “Complete with a high-contrast display, speech input and feedback and even a tactile keypad and buttons, SmartVision2 can adapt to your needs. And SmartVision2 is very easy to learn and use.”. The SmartVision2 is an android phone based on Samsung Galaxy phones.

The phones have accessibility devices that allows the user to send and receive text messages

The Jitterbug phones are simple and come with access to an operator to assist with placing calls and text messages.


The Android phones are having talkback feature from which blind persons can access the smartphones
